The genus

Ipheion comes from a Mediteranean climat in the region of North Argentina and South of Brasil. The bulbs have very little protecting tunic and will support some summer water. The common I. uniflorum which was in the past often replaced by the selection 'Wisley Blue' now faces serious competition from the largely superior forms 'Rolf Fiedler' and Alberto Castillo'Both species are very good in rockeries but also very recommended for use in containers.
