The genus
The south african genus Nerine is well known for its exotic cutflower, but also makes an excellent garden plant. The almost evergreen species from the eastern part of South Africa (Eastern Cape, Natal and Transvaal) have a very short dornancy after flowering in December. The following species can be transplanted during winter : N. bowdenii , N. undulata and N. filifolia. In the warmer regions these plants need partial shade. The wintergrowing (summerdormant) species, displayed in our summer catalog, come from the Western Cape. This section includes the less hardy N. sarniensis and its hybrids, beautiful cutflowers available in many different colours.
