Polianthes tuberosa Pearl (double) — Tubéreuse

The legendary 'Tuberose' has been cultivated for centuries as a cutflower; its white double flowers are very well known for its extraordinary scent. For successful cultivation warmth and humidity is essential. The 70cm high flowerstalks appear at the end of the summer. The leaves die down as soon as the temperatures drop below 12°C, when the bulbs should be lifted and stored as a clump in dry conditions. In April or May the clump should be divided; the orginal bulb will not flower again and can be discarded, the smaller bulbs can be grown on to flowering size (2 years).
