Freesia viridis viridis
A rather special and unusual Freesia : very early in the year appear the original flowers with green reflexed segments on a elegant horizontal spike. Easy to grow and can spread readily.
The genus
This South African genus is generally known by its hybrids. But here are the originals: they are smaller and less gaudy, but so fragrant that it might bowl you over, if not, at least the parfum will take you back to memories of the past. Freesia are wintergrowers, not very hardy, and to be placed in a well sheltered warm spot.
