Lachenalia pallida
The last to flower with creamy yellow and brown flowers assembled in a conique spike. As time goes on the spike, the flower changes colour, which makes it a very interesting decoration.
The genus
There are numerous species of Lachenalia (all from the Cape, South Africa). All make an excellent pot plant: decorative foliage, long lasting wax like flowers during the winter months and they grow well in pots. Use a light sandy mix and plant in August on reception of the bulbs. Foliage soon emerges after the first watering; keep them frostfree . Repot the bulbs every year. Flowering order: L. bulbifera, L. aloides 'Pearsonii' and 'Aurea', L. pustulata, L. pallida., L contaminata.
