Scadoxus multiflorus ssp multiflorus — Blood lily




A tender summer-growing species which makes an ideal potplant for shady areas in the garden, conservatories or indoors. To be planted in early spring in a well draining substrate with some organic matter. In mid summer strong stems bear large rounded flower heads with salmon orange flowers which are very suitable for flower arrangements. To be kept almost dry from November until the beginning of March.
The genus
The genus Scadoxus has no true bulbs and has recently been separated from the genus Haemanthus. This summer-growing subtropical genus occurs on the east coast of South Africa, north to Zimbabwe.
