Ixia ‘Super mélange’

Category photo (no photo of its own for this entry)
Ixia 'super mélange‘ is a very exciting mixture of all sorts of colour combinations. And even more interesting is that seed is produced and the offspring perpetuates this festival of colours. Plants are tall and ressemble the dutch hybrids, but its botanical origin remains a mystery.
The genus
An interesting wintergrowing genus with a wide variety of colours, many possibilities of use, easy to grow and a fairly good resistance to frost. Corms are flat, narrow leaves with densely crowded flower spikes upto 60cm high. The 3 hybrids proposed are suitable for cutflowers and can be grown in well drained open ground. Ixias can also be grown in pots. For more information you may visit the Ixia website of Bill Richardson in Australia (http://www.angelfire.com/ri/ixia/)
