Scilla (merwilla) natalensis (Merwilla)

An interesting summer-growing species, found in Natal, from the coast well up into the Drakensberg mountains (2000 m), where it tolerates snow and frost down to - 7°C. The large semi-exposed bulb should be located amongst rocks or in a big pot where it will form after several years an interesting clump. In early summer, at the same time as the leaves, appear the tall spikes with pale blue flowers. A very desirable species for large gardens.
