Galtonia viridiflora — Summer hyacinth
Very similar to G. candicans also with its tall elegant spikes with 20 to 30 bellshaped pale green flowers. Very effective when planted in large groups, providing a striking combination with perennials which flower at the same time. In its natural habitat it grows up to altitudes of 2000m, which means that this species also grows well in cooler climates.

The genus
Galtonia is a very attractive garden plant with a long flowering period, and is easy to grow. The bulbs should be planted shallow and should be lifted early autumn unless the soil can be kept dry during the winter as the bulbs are very prone to rotting during dormancy. Also suitable for large containers.
