Chasmanthe floribunda ‘Duckitii’
Very large flat corms which produce a tall and elegant plant upto a height of 150cm. In April appear the flower spikes consisting of two rows of pale yellow flowers pointing upwards. It is recommended to associate this species with the winterflowering forms of Kniphofia uvaria.
The genus
The unusual irregular shaped corms should be planted in half shaded well sheltered areas where it will thrive with its luxurious light green vegetation. Elegant spikes with original red flowers appear in early spring. The tubular zygomorphic flowers have a characteristic upper petal in the form up a "hood". The leaves will stay green untill early summer when bright red seeds are shed which will readily germinate in the autumn. Naturalises well in coastal areas.
