Crocosmia paniculata



The very large corms ressemble those of 'Lucifer'.The tall flowerstems carry horizontal spikes witha large number of small orange flowers. This species produces seeds which allow it to naturalise freely in damp climates. Although normally its flowers have various shades of orange, this form has red flowers and is found naturally in the South african region of Natal.
The genus
Crocosmia is also known under the name of Montbretia (although this name often refers to the small flowered cultivars). A very popular genus from the eastern part of South Africa. On condition that summerwater is provided and mulch protection during the winter is given they are easy to grow.
