Native to South America, particularly Brazil, Oxalis brasiliensis (Oxalidaceae) is a low bulbous plant forming a mat of tender green, clover-like trifoliate leaves, with a finely veined bulb tunic. In spring, numerous funnel-shaped, five-petalled flowers in vivid pink to purplish tones open on slender stalks held above the foliage. The plant goes fully dormant once summer heat returns. It requires a sunny to part-shaded position, well-drained soil, and moderate watering during the growing period.

Oxalis is a very large genus , especially known by its invasive weedy species. However, the species presented make excellent and attractive container plants. When referring to an invasive species we will surely draw your attention to it. A large number of Oxalis species from South Africa that could be described as 'shrubby.
