Galanthus elwesii var monosticus — Perce neige géant

G. elwesii is the most likely species to persist in a mediterraean region. Its glaucous foliage is broad with its two leaves wrap around each other, and the bloom stalk where they emerge from the ground. The large flowers have green markings on the outside of the three inner petals both at the base and at the tip. Sepals are 24 mm long; leaves are 20 mm wide. To be planted in wooded areas and left in place where it will seed and spread naturally. Galanthus elwesii is divided into three groups: G.elwesii var elwesii has two separate marks on the inner petals. One at the base and the other on the apex on the inner petals. These can be joined by a fine line or in some cases it can be a solid green mark. G.elwesii var monostictus has a single green mark on the apex of the inner petal. G. elwesii var hiemalis are usually in flower before the New Year.
