Freesia alba /100b
In early spring appear the very fragrant white flowers with a touch of yellow. The species is so adapted here that it can be found in many gardens and parks around the Mediterranean. Can be grown in pots our in rough lawns with deep and well drained soil. Seed is produced freely and helps to spread the plant around the garden.
The genus
This South African genus is generally known by its hybrids. But here are the originals: they are smaller and less gaudy, but so fragrant that it might bowl you over, if not, at least the parfum will take you back to memories of the past. Freesia are wintergrowers, not very hardy, and to be placed in a well sheltered warm spot.
