The famous autumn flowering crocus which produces the saffron. Its origin remains a mystery, but it has been grown since Antique times. Being a cause of fortunes, fights and culinary desires ever since, much has been written about this plant. Many reasons to introduce it into your garden. This Crocus is grown commercially in the rather cooler areas of central Spain, Marocco, or Kashmir. Every flower has to be pulled apart to extract the dark red coloured stygmata and 150 flowers are needed for one gram of saffron.
