Sternbergia candida

Endemic to a small area of south-western Turkey, where it grows in scrub and cedar-forest margins up to 1100 m, Sternbergia candida is the only white-flowered species in the genus. Its fragrant, funnel-shaped flowers, 4-5 cm long, open in late winter (January-February) on short 10-20 cm stems, before the narrow grey-green leaves appear. Rare and endangered in the wild due to over-collection, it needs sharp drainage and winter protection in cold climates.
