Allium karataviense

Native to the Karatau Mountains of Kazakhstan in Central Asia, Allium karataviense is a low, compact allium with broad, fleshy, grey-blue leaves often edged in pink, arranged in a basal rosette. In spring, a silvery-pink globe-shaped umbel up to 15-20 cm across opens on a short stem of 10-25 cm. Winner of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, it thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, tolerating summer drought well, and suits rock gardens and border edges.
