Tritonia crocata

Native to South Africa, Tritonia crocata grows in clay soils, in grassland in summer-rainfall regions and in fynbos and renosterveld in winter-rainfall areas. This bulbous perennial forms a fan of narrow, lance-shaped leaves and produces, in late spring and early summer, a spike of bright orange to reddish-orange, cup-shaped flowers, the three lower tepals marked with a yellow or dark red stripe at the throat. It needs full sun, well-drained soil and a dry summer rest.
