"Watsonia borbonica x PH 5" designates a garden selection derived from Watsonia borbonica ("PH 5" is most likely an internal cultivation or batch code). Native to the winter-rainfall areas of South Africa's Western Cape, the species grows on well-drained rocky slopes of sandstone, clay or granite. A cormous perennial, it forms an upright fan of sword-shaped leaves and produces, from late spring to early summer, spikes of fragrant, bright pink, tubular flowers on stems up to 2 m tall. It requires full sun, well-drained soil and a dry summer rest.
