Tulipa praestans

Native to the subalpine meadows and rocky slopes of Central Asia, particularly the Pamir-Alai range in Tajikistan, where it grows up to 3,000 m on scree and at the edge of open woodland, Tulipa praestans is a dwarf bulbous perennial. It is notable for bearing several flowers per stem (up to 4-5), scarlet and cup-shaped, in early spring. The foliage is glaucous and upright. It needs full sun, sharp drainage and a dry summer, conditions that favour its longevity and its ability to naturalize.
