Agapanthus caulescens

Native to Eswatini and eastern South Africa (KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Limpopo), Agapanthus caulescens grows in open grassland, often among rocks, in summer-rainfall regions, dying back in winter. It differs from other agapanthus species in having a conspicuous above-ground stem from which the leaves arise, sometimes so short at the base that it resembles a leek. In summer, an erect stalk up to 1-1.5 m tall bears a dense umbel of tubular flowers ranging from pale to dark blue. It requires full sun, well-drained soil and some moisture during the growing season.
