Polianthes geminifolia

Native to central and southern Mexico, where it grows in winter-dry oak forests, Polianthes geminiflora (now sometimes placed in the genus Agave as Agave coetocapnia) is a tuberous geophyte. A basal rosette of narrow leaves precedes a scape about 30 cm tall bearing a terminal raceme of paired flowers, reddish orange to yellow, hence the epithet "geminiflora" (twin-flowered). Flowering occurs in early to midsummer. It favours well-drained soil and a sunny position, with a dry winter rest.
