Sisyrinchium calyricon

The precise identity of "Sisyrinchium calyricon" could not be confirmed in the botanical literature, so this description is given at genus level. Sisyrinchium (Iridaceae) comprises around 150 species of small tufted perennials, mostly American, with narrow, iris-like fanned foliage. In spring and summer they bear small six-tepalled star-shaped flowers in blue, yellow, white or violet, which open only in sunshine and last a single day. Easy to grow, they prefer cool to moist soil and a sunny position, and self-seed readily.
