Gladiolus inconnu

Category photo (no photo of its own for this entry)
This Gladiolus of South African origin could not be identified with precision and is offered under the label "unknown". Like the many wild species of this highly diverse Cape genus, it grows from a tunicated corm in fynbos or rocky grassland, producing narrow, sword-shaped leaves and a spike of funnel-shaped flowers. Flower colour, size and flowering season vary widely across the genus. Grow in full sun with well-drained soil, and a dry summer rest for winter-rainfall forms.
