Gladiolus viridiflorus

Described by G.J. Lewis, Gladiolus viridiflorus is a rare South African species known from the Biedouw Valley, in the Cederberg-Bokkeveld region (a winter-rainfall area). It is a small cormous plant with narrow, sword-shaped leaves, bearing a slender spike of speckled, greenish flowers, with a habit more reminiscent of certain Geissorhiza than of typical gladioli. Flowering occurs in the southern spring. Like other Bokkeveld geophytes, it needs full sun, well-drained soil and a dry summer rest.
