Dierama pulcherrimum

Native to South Africa, Dierama pulcherrimum, known as angel's fishing rod, is a cormous, evergreen perennial forming clumps of narrow, grass-like leaves. Slender arching stems, reaching 1.2-1.5 m, rise above the foliage and bear, from late June to mid-August, nodding bell-shaped flowers in shades of pink to magenta or occasionally white, opening in succession along the wiry stem from tip to base. This Iridaceae species prefers full sun and moist, well-drained soil, and is prized for its graceful habit, swaying gently in the slightest breeze.
