Endemic to the Cape Peninsula (South Africa), where it grows on rocky sandstone slopes in fynbos, often flowering best after fire, Agapanthus africanus is a rhizomatous evergreen perennial with leathery, strap-shaped leaves about 15 mm wide. From late spring into autumn (November-April, peaking December-February), a scape rarely exceeding 70 cm bears an umbel of funnel-shaped flowers, pale to deep blue with a darker central stripe on each tepal. This catalogue accession's identity remains uncertain but matches the typical species. Grow in full sun with sharp drainage.
