Cyclamen rolfsianum

The catalogue name corresponds to Cyclamen rohlfsianum, endemic to a small area of northeastern Libya (Jabal al-Akhdar, Cyrenaica), growing under scrub and open woodland on limestone terra rossa from sea level to 450 m. The tuber, round when young and becoming knobbly and corky with age, can reach 20 cm across. Large, maple-shaped, lobed leaves, purplish or silver-patterned beneath, appear in late summer. Sweetly fragrant pink flowers open from August to October, before or alongside the foliage. A tender species that is notoriously difficult to cultivate.
