Fritilaria alfreda

Native to the Amanus Mountains in southern Turkey (near the Syrian-Lebanese border), Fritillaria alfredae grows in mountainous terrain under a Mediterranean climate. The bulb produces a stem about 25 cm tall bearing bell-shaped, glaucous flowers, yellow-green to blue-green depending on the subspecies (subsp. glaucoviridis, the most commonly cultivated, and subsp. platyptera). Flowering occurs early in spring, in late March. Like most Fritillaria from this region, it needs pot or scree cultivation with sharp drainage, a dry summer rest, and a sunny position.
