Crinum moorei

Native to the eastern seaboard of South Africa (from the Eastern Cape to KwaZulu-Natal), Crinum moorei grows at coastal forest margins and in marshy ground, in light shade, in summer-rainfall regions. The large bulb, up to 20 cm across, extends into a long neck of 20-30 cm, bearing a rosette of long, flat, dark green leaves up to 1 m. From late spring to early autumn, a stout scape up to 1.2 m tall carries an umbel of 5-10 large, bell-shaped, fragrant flowers (stronger-scented by night), white to pink depending on the population. Listed as Vulnerable in the wild.
