Bellevalia brevipedicellata

Endemic to southwest Crete and the island of Gavdos, Bellevalia brevipedicellata grows in rock crevices, phrygana and stony slopes near sea level. The bulb, round to broadly ovoid, 2-4.5 cm across, produces 3-5 oblong leaves with visible parallel veins, longer than the scape. The scape bears a dense, cylindrical raceme of 13-30 small flowers resembling a Muscari. Flowering occurs in winter (January-March). Listed as Endangered, it should be grown in a dry, well-drained, sunny position.
