Crocus caspius

Native to the southern Caspian coast (the Talysh district of Azerbaijan and adjacent northern Iran up to Gorgan), Crocus caspius grows in open woodland and low scrub, from sea level up to 1300 m. The lightly fragrant flowers, white with a bright yellow throat, often pink-flushed or lilac-stippled outside, reach up to 9 cm tall; they appear in succession, two per corm, in autumn (October-November), alongside the emerging leaves. The corm tunic is membranous and split at the base. Grow in well-drained soil, full sun, with a dry summer rest.
