Narcissus cantabricus

Native to southern Spain, Morocco, Algeria and the Balearic Islands, Narcissus cantabricus grows in hills and mountainous terrain, despite a name that misleadingly points to Cantabria. This small daffodil of section Bulbocodium flowers in winter, from November to March, producing white flowers with narrow, reduced tepals and a widely flared, cone-shaped corona resembling a hoop petticoat. The leaves are thin and rush-like. In cultivation it needs full sun, well-drained soil and a dry summer rest, and is particularly well suited to pot culture or a sheltered rockery.
