Ixia capillaris

Endemic to South Africa's Western Cape, growing from Piketberg and the Koue Bokkeveld to Bot River and Riversdale in fynbos and renosterveld, Ixia capillaris is distinguished by its two thread-like, leathery to succulent leaves less than 2 mm wide. It bears loose spikes of one to three white to mauve-blue or pink flowers, sometimes with short, thread-like lateral branches. The corms are wrapped in finely fibrous tunics. Like other Ixia, it needs full sun and well-drained soil, and has lost much of its habitat to crop cultivation.
