Erythronium oregonum

Native to western North America, from British Columbia to California, Erythronium oregonum grows in open woodland and damp meadows of the coastal mountain ranges. This perennial forms an oval bulb about 5 cm long and produces two lance-shaped leaves, dark green mottled with brown and white, up to 22 cm long. In spring, a leafless stalk bears one to three lily-like white to cream flowers with reflexed tepals and bright yellow anthers. A spring ephemeral, its foliage dies back by early summer. It thrives in partial shade with cool, humus-rich, well-drained soil.
