The exact species could not be confirmed with certainty, so this entry describes the genus Nerine generally. Native to southern Africa (South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini), this Amaryllidaceae genus includes about thirty species growing from tunicated bulbs in habitats ranging from dry rocky hills to fynbos and marshland. Nerine species most often flower in late summer and autumn, before or alongside the foliage, producing umbels of star-shaped flowers with wavy or crimped tepals in shades of pink, red or white. They require full sun and sharply drained soil to thrive.
