Sisyrinchium macrocarpum

Native to Argentina (Patagonia), Sisyrinchium macrocarpum is a perennial Iridaceae forming neat clumps of narrow, grey-green, iris-like foliage about 20 cm tall. In spring and summer, short stems bear large, cup-shaped, bright yellow flowers marked with a reddish-brown ring at the centre. It thrives in full sun to light shade, in well-drained soil with regular moisture, as it does not tolerate prolonged drought. A good choice for rock gardens or borders, it forms compact, long-flowering evergreen tufts.
