Iris inconnu wortel

Category photo (no photo of its own for this entry)
As the exact species of this Iris could not be confirmed, this entry describes bulbous irises of the subgenus Xiphium in general, from which the Dutch, Spanish and English irises are derived. Native to the western Mediterranean basin (Spain, Portugal, North Africa), these Iridaceae grow from a small tunicated bulb and produce narrow, upright foliage. In spring, a slender stem 40-60 cm tall bears one or two six-tepalled flowers in various colours (blue, purple, yellow, white), with a characteristic yellow or orange blotch on the falls. Grow in full sun with well-drained soil.
