Hyacinthella heldreichii

Native to southern Anatolia in Turkey, Hyacinthella heldreichii grows on stony and rocky slopes of the region. This small bulbous Asparagaceae forms a low tuft of narrow, upright leaves, from which a loose spring spike emerges bearing the darkest flowers in the genus: very dark blue-violet bells with a flared mouth revealing even darker anthers. Like other Hyacinthella species, it requires full sun, well-drained soil and a dry summer rest, making it a good choice for rock gardens or cold-frame pot culture.
