Tulipa maximowiczii

Tulipa maximowiczii, now generally treated as part of Tulipa linifolia, is native to grassy hills of southern Tajikistan, in Central Asia. This botanical tulip, 15-30 cm tall, has 5-8 narrow, linear, grey-green leaves. In spring it bears a solitary, vivid scarlet-red flower, almost star-shaped when open, with a blue-black basal blotch, black filaments and violet anthers. Like other Central Asian tulips, it requires full sun, well-drained, stony soil, and a dry, warm summer rest.
