Moraea cooperi

A rare Iridaceae native to the Western and Northwestern Cape, South Africa, Moraea cooperi grows on rocky sandstone slopes and flats, often near water. This cormous species produces large yellow flowers delicately veined with purple, with only three tepals fused into a well-developed tube - a distinctive trait within the genus. It flowers in the southern spring. Uncommon in the wild, it requires well-drained sandy or gravelly soil, a sunny position, and generous winter-spring watering followed by a dry summer rest.
