Tigridia chrysantha

Tigridia chrysantha is a rare species, known from only one or two localities in central Mexico, the main centre of diversification for the genus Tigridia. As precise information on this species remains limited, the description below relies on general characteristics of the genus: tunicated-bulb geophytes of the Iridaceae family, with pleated leaves and large, spectacular flowers - three spreading outer tepals and three smaller, often spotted inner segments, giving the name "tiger flower". Each bloom lasts only a day, but flowering continues for several weeks in summer. It requires well-drained soil and a sunny position.
