Ixia ? capilaris ??

The uncertain title on this entry most likely refers to Ixia capillaris, an Iridaceae from the Western Cape, South Africa, belonging to the thread-leaved Ixia group (leaves under 2 mm wide, leathery to succulent, without a raised midrib). The corm is wrapped in fine fibres. The sparsely branched spike bears 1 to 3 flowers, sometimes with short thread-like lateral branches carrying 1 or 2 further flowers. Like the roughly 90 species of the genus, all native to the winter-rainfall zone of southern Africa, it requires well-drained sandy soil and a sunny position, with a dry summer rest.
