Gladiolus scullyi

Native to Namaqualand and the western Karoo, South Africa, at the northern edge of the high-rainfall zone, Gladiolus scullyi - the patryspypie ('little partridge pipe') - is a cormous geophyte closely related to Gladiolus venustus, from which it differs in its gently arched, rather than sharply bent, lower tepals. Like other regional Gladiolus, it forms a fan of sword-shaped leaves and a spike of funnel-shaped flowers. It requires well-drained soil and a sunny position, with a dry summer rest.
