Ixia scillaris

Endemic to the Western and Southwestern Cape of South Africa, from Tulbagh and Darling to the Cape Peninsula and Somerset West, Ixia scillaris - the agretjie kalossie - grows in fynbos, where it is especially abundant after fire. This cormous Iridaceae, once classified in the genera Tritonia and then Tritonixia before being restored to Ixia, produces a spike of flowers typical of the genus. It requires well-drained sandy soil and a sunny position, with a dry summer rest.
