Geissorhiza schinzii

Endemic to the Western Cape, South Africa, from Houw Hoek near Grabouw to Napier and Baardscheerdersbos near Elim, Geissorhiza schinzii (also known as Engysiphon schinzii) grows in montane areas, on rocky sandstone slopes in fynbos. This cormous Iridaceae reaches 20 cm, with sticky, linear, double-grooved leaves. It produces, from August to October and usually after fire, a spike of 1 to 4 pink, dark-veined flowers with a long tube of 24-32 mm. It requires well-drained soil and a sunny position.
