Gladiolus patersoniae

Native to southern South Africa, from Uitenhage in the Eastern Cape to Worcester in the Western Cape and the coast near Cape Infanta in the Overberg, Gladiolus patersoniae produces, from late winter to spring, fragrant blue, greyish, white or pink flowers with a short tube, marked with a yellow band across the three lower tepals. The plant usually bears only three thin, cylindrical, quill-like leaves and a small, 2 cm rounded corm with a rough, fibrous tunic. It requires well-drained soil and a sunny position.
