Lapeirousia sp ?

The exact species of this Lapeirousia could not be confirmed with certainty; the description is therefore given at genus level. Lapeirousia is a cormous Iridaceae genus of some thirty species, endemic to sub-Saharan Africa and especially diverse in Namaqualand and the northwestern Cape, South Africa, where it grows on sandy soils or rocky outcrops in semi-arid habitats. The corm, bell-shaped or triangular with a flat base, is wrapped in compacted fibres. Leaves are flat or narrow and pleated. The zygomorphic flowers, often with an elongated cylindrical tube, come in white, blue, violet or red. It requires well-drained soil and a sunny position.
