Romulea saldanhensis

Endemic to the southwestern Western Cape, South Africa, around the Saldanha area, Romulea saldanhensis is a cormous geophytic Iridaceae, described by M.P. de Vos in 1972. Like other Romulea, it grows from a globose to top-shaped corm, compressed or asymmetric, with a circular to crescent-shaped basal ridge, producing crocus-like cup-shaped flowers in late winter and spring, followed by summer dormancy. Grown in well-drained sandy soil and full sun, it is valued for its hardiness and the genus's typically early flowering.
