Ixia dubia

Found from Piketberg to Caledon in the southwestern Cape of South Africa, on granite slopes, Ixia dubia is a perennial cormous Iridaceae reaching 25 to 60 cm tall, with five to seven annual, sword-shaped to linear leaves. The yellow to orange flowers bear a dark purple spot at the base of the lower tepals, a characteristic marking of the species. It grows on both sandstone and granite soils, on flats and slopes, and flowers in spring. Used as an ornamental and cut flower, it requires well-drained soil and a sunny position.
